Landrieu Statement on Jordan Cove Natural Gas Permit Approval
Senator calls for a streamlined & efficient approval of remaining export permits
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, today released the following statement on the Department of Energy’s (DOE) approval of the Jordan Cove liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Southern Oregon. This is the seventh permit DOE has approved, and Sen. Landrieu will continue to press for an efficient and timely process to approve the remaining 24. Tomorrow, Sen. Landrieu will hold a hearing on how energy exports can create high-paying jobs and make America an energy superpower.
"The Department of Energy's approval of the Jordan Cove LNG export terminal in Southern Oregon is necessary to create more high-paying jobs in America and to solidify the U.S. as an energy superpower. A quick and efficient approval process to responsibly export natural gas from our shores will also reduce the stronghold that countries, like Russia, currently exercise over their neighbors,” Sen. Landrieu said. “I appreciate the accelerated pace by which this permit was issued, and I will continued to press for an even more streamlined process in the future.”
Today’s approval follows last month’s permit for Sempra in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. It waited more than two years for a DOE’s approval.
