The Senate and Natural Resources Committee has scheduled a full committee hearing to receive testimony on the implications for consumers and energy markets of the Enron bankruptcy. The committee will explore the prospects for maintaining the needed investment and competition in natural gas and electricity production and transmission, and whether existing statutory authority, together with the changes already proposed in the energy bill pending before the Senate (S.1766), are adequate to ensure that consumers are served by well functioning energy markets.
