"I have long recognized the potential of hydrogen fuel cell technologies in a variety of applications, so I'm pleased that President Bush plans to boost funding for fuel cell research. It's a good first step, a move in the right direction.
"Fuel cell technologies offer the promise of a cleaner and more secure energy future for America. I believe that more can be, and should be, done to develop these technologies for applications beyond just transportation. Although the exact scope of the Administration's plan is not clear, if they really want to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign oil and reduce global-warming pollution, a more comprehensive and further-reaching strategy than a simple focus on vehicles is needed.
"I look forward to seeing the details of the President's hydrogen proposal, and I hope that other energy research programs do not suffer to pay for it."
