Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) today praised the new report of the National Commission on Energy Policy, entitled "Ending the Energy Stalemate: A Bipartisan Strategy to Meet America’s Energy Challenges." The independent, bipartisan Commission is comprised of 16 energy experts from a broad spectrum of industry, government, labor, academia, environmental and consumer groups. Their consensus policy recommendations on U.S. energy policy were developed over a period of two years and were based on 30 detailed analyses that were released with the report today. "This report takes a balanced approach to constructing a forward-looking national energy policy," Bingaman said. "It provides fresh thinking on a number of important energy issues, such as climate change policy and vehicle fuel efficiency standards. When the next Congress convenes, we will be faced with important and continuing energy challenges. These include enhancing our energy supplies, increasing energy efficiency, strengthening essential energy systems, developing energy technologies for the future, and dealing with the connections between energy and environment, particularly potential risks from climate change. The Commission has given these topics careful attention and provided thoughtful recommendations on them. I believe the Commission’s report will be an important contribution to the future bipartisan dialogue that is essential to have in Congress on these important topics." # # # Washington, D.C. – Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) today praised the new report of the National Commission on Energy Policy, entitled “Ending the Energy Stalemate: A Bipartisan Strategy to Meet America’s Energy Challenges.” The independent, bipartisan Commission is comprised of 16 energy experts from a broad spectrum of industry, government, labor, academia, environmental and consumer groups.
