SENATE ENERGY & NATURAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK OF JUNE 7

The Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee will hold two full committee hearings and one subcommittee hearing next week. The business meeting slated for Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. has been postponed.
The full committee will hold a nomination hearing on Tuesday, June 8 at 10:00 a.m. in SD-366 to consider the nomination of Suedeen G. Kelly to be a member of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for the term expiring June 30, 2009. Her bio follows:
Suedeen G. Kelly is a Commissioner at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, holding a term that expires June 30, 2004. Previously she was a Professor of Law at the University of New Mexico School of Law, where she taught energy law, public utility regulation, administrative law and legislative process. She also worked with the law firm of Modrall, Sperling, Roehl, Harris & Sisk in Albuquerque from 2000 to 2003. In 2000, Ms. Kelly served as counsel to the California Independent System Operator. In 1999, she worked as a Legislative Aide to U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman.
She received a B.A. with Distinction in Chemistry from the University of Rochester and a J.D. cum laude from Cornell Law School. She is admitted to the bars of New Mexico and District of Columbia.
The National Parks subcommittee will hold a hearing on Tuesday, June 8 at 2:30 p.m. in SD-366 to receive testimony on the following bills:
S. 931, to direct the Secretary of the Interior to undertake a program to reduce the risks from and mitigate the effects of avalanches on visitors to units of the National Park System and on other recreational users of public land;
S. 1678, to provide for the establishment of the Uintah Research and Curatorial Center for Dinosaur National Monument in the States of Colorado and Utah.
S. 2140, to expand the boundary of the Mount Rainier National Park;
S. 2287, to adjust the boundary of the Barataria Preserve Unit of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve in the State of Louisiana;
S. 2469, to amend the National Historic Preservation Act to provide appropriation authorization and improve the operations of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.

The full committee will hold a hearing on Thursday, June 10 at 10:00 a.m. in SD-366 to receive testimony regarding crude oil supply, gasoline demand, and the effects on prices. Possible issues to be discussed include: domestic and global demand, economic growth, futures-speculation, risk premium, past price spikes, price patterns, OPEC, geo-political situations, company profit rates, GAO report - Effect of Mergers May 2004, reserve calculations, production expectations, Strategic Petroleum Reserve, refinery capacity, refinery barriers and consumer costs.
