Global Energy Trends: Forecasting the Future

Top billing this week in Senate Energy Committee is tomorrow’s hearing on global energy trends and their potential effects on U.S. energy needs, security and policy. The hearing, "Forecasting the Future: U.S. Energy Challenges in the Global Context," starts at 10 a.m. in Dirksen 366. Link to http://www.energy.senate.gov for a live webcast. Witnesses at the hearing will discuss the Energy Information Administration’s Annual Energy Outlook 2005 report, which provides supply, demand and price projections for oil, natural gas, nuclear, coal and renewables. In addition, witnesses will offer their views on emerging world energy trends, including key factors affecting energy supply (such as OPEC and Russia) and energy demand (such as Asia). Testifying will be Guy Caruso, administrator, Energy Information Administration; Jeffrey Logan, China program manager for the International Energy Agency; Frank Verrastro, energy program director and senior fellow, Center for Strategic and International Studies, and Andrew Slaughter, senior economist for Shell Exploration & Production.
