Epifani Leaves ENR Staff to Become Special Assistant on Economic Policy to President Bush

Washington, D.C. – Lisa Epifani, majority counsel for the Energy and Natural Resources Committee on electricity, oil and gas issues, is leaving the committee to become Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy on the National Economic Council. In that capacity, she will cover domestic energy issues. Epifani will begin hew new responsibilities February 27.

Chairman Domenici’s statement:

“I congratulate Lisa on this new opportunity. I think she will be an excellent advisor to the President Bush on domestic energy issues. I have been very pleased with her work on the committee and wish her the best in this new assignment.”

Epifani joined the committee in January 2003. Her duties included drafting legislation; managing legislative and oversight hearings; and evaluating and coordinating views and proposals of government officials and industry stakeholders. 

From October 2001 through January 2003, Lisa was a political appointee at the Department of Energy.  She served as both the Senior Legislative Advisor in the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs and as the Staff Director to the DOE Electricity Advisory Board. Lisa was an associate at law firm of Dewey Ballantine in Washington, D.C.  Her practice included representation of oil, natural gas and electric industries in a wide variety of matters such as: mergers and acquisitions; Regional Transmission Organization development; transmission and interconnection issues; market-based rate applications; and advising on state and federal regulatory issues. She holds a BA from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from Yale University.
