WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Pete Domenici, ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, issued the following statement regarding the introduction of the Energy Efficiency Promotion Act (S.1115):
“I am pleased to join Senator Bingaman, Senator Lugar, and others to introduce legislation that improves America’s energy efficiency. We did a great deal in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 on energy conservation and improved efficiency, but there’s no doubt that much more can be done.
“This bill will allow consumers to save money by reducing the amount of energy they use. Our bill also presents the federal government with an opportunity to lead the way by improving the efficiency of our own facilities. As we provide incentives and encourage others to make their buildings, lighting and appliances more efficient, it is appropriate that we make sure the federal government does the same.
“Over the next several weeks, we will receive important input from those tasked with implementing these policies and those who will be impacted by them. In particular, I am very interested in hearing from the Department of Energy, who will have representatives at next week’s hearing. I look forward to working with the Chairman and other Senators to move this legislation through the Senate.”
