Weekly Bonus …

Coming Soon: Senate floor action on a new energy bill, S.1419.  For reporters who want to better understand the genealogy of the 277-page “Renewable Fuels, Consumer Protection and Energy Efficiency Act of 2007,” here’s its lineage:

Leader Reid has bundled together, into a single bill, legislation that had been reported by four separate committees: Energy, Commerce, EPW and Foreign Relations.  All of these committee-reported bills enjoy broad bipartisan support.  Titles I (Biofuels), II (Efficiency) and III (Carbon Capture & Storage) are products of the Energy Committee.  Previously, they comprised S.1321.  These three ENR titles represent 2/3rd of the content of the new energy bill; the remaining 1/3rd is text reported by Commerce, EPW and Foreign Relations.

Title IV (Public Buildings Cost Reduction) comes from S.992, reported by EPW.  Titles V (CAFE) and VI (Price Gouging) come from S.357, reported by Commerce Committee.  Title VII (Energy Diplomacy and Security) comes from S.193, reported by Foreign Relations.  Hope this family tree helps.
