WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Pete Domenici, ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, today welcomed the Senate’s newest member, John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), to the Energy Committee.

Barrasso was appointed to the U.S. Senate on June 25, 2007, following the death of Senator Craig Thomas, who also served on the Energy Committee.  This morning’s nominations hearing was Barrasso’s first as a member of the Committee.

In welcoming Barrasso, Domenici made the following statement:

“In replacing my friend Senator Craig Thomas, Senator Barrasso certainly has big shoes to fill.  But his past professional success and even his short time in the Senate suggest to me that Senator Barrasso has what it takes to be a successful U.S. Senator.  I’m very pleased to welcome him to the Energy and Natural Resources Committee.  I believe our Committee is one of the most productive in the Senate, thanks in large part to the bipartisan way we are able to conduct business.  I look forward to working with Senator Barrasso on issues important to our nation and the West.”
