  • On Tuesday, March 23, the full committee will hold a business meeting to consider the nomination of Jeffrey Lane to be Assistant Secretary of Energy for Congressional & Intergovernmental Affairs.  The committee also will consider consensus committee amendments to S. 1462, the American Clean Energy Leadership Act; H.R. 934, to convey submerged lands to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in order to give that territory the same benefits in its submerged lands as Guam, the Virgin Islands and American Samoa; and H.R. 3689, to provide for an extension of the legislative authority of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund to establish a visitor center.  Reminder: Committee mark-ups are open to the press and public but are not webcast.  (Dirksen 366 at 10:00 a.m.)

 

  • On Tuesday, March 23, the Subcommittee on Public Lands and Forests will consider S. 1546, for the conveyance of certain parcels of land to the town of Mantua, Utah; S. 2798, to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire through the facilitation of insect and disease infestation treatment of National Forest System and adjacent lands; S. 2830, to amend the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 to clarify that uncertified States and Indian tribes have the authority to use certain payments for certain non-coal reclamation projects; and S. 2963, to designate certain land in Oregon as wilderness, to provide for the exchange of certain Federal land and non-Federal land.  Witnesses will include Harris Sherman, Undersecretary of Agriculture for Natural Resources and Environment; Joseph Pizarchik, director, Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, Department of the Interior; Forrest Reinhardt, president, Venture Beyond, Coto de Caza, CA; Gregory Conrad, National Association of Abandoned Mine Land Programs and executive director, Interstate Mining Compact Commission, Herndon, VA; Dominik Kulakowski, assistant professor, Clark University, Worcester, MA; and Colorado State Sen.
