Bingaman Receives EIA Analysis on a CES

November 30, 2011

This morning, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) posted online its analysis of a Clean Energy Standard (CES), using modeling scenarios requested by Chairman Bingaman in August.  (Check back to this release on the Energy Committee website or on Twitter for an active link after 11:00 a.m. today.)  The analysis examines eight different CES policy options and discusses the effects of each on the deployment of clean generation technologies, electricity and natural gas prices, and greenhouse gas emissions from the power sector.

The Chairman said, “The EIA has provided us with a thorough and thoughtful analysis of key policy options for a Clean Energy Standard. The insight that EIA experts have included in this report will help inform the CES legislation I am developing and planning to introduce early next year.”

EIA, created by Congress in 1977, is an independent, policy-neutral statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy.  It collects, analyzes and disseminates independent and impartial energy information to promote sound policymaking, efficient markets, and public understanding of energy and its interaction with the economy and the environment.
