Murkowski Welcomes Report on Spurring Energy and Job Creation
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today welcomed the release of a report by the Senate and Congressional Western Caucuses focused on the jobs that could be created through the responsible development of America’s natural resources.
Many of the bills highlighted in the report are awaiting a hearing before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, of which Sen. Murkowski is the ranking member.
“I applaud Sen. Barrasso and the Western Caucuses for focusing on sensible proposals that will both spur job creation and raise revenue. As the ranking Republican on the Energy Committee, it is my hope that the chairman of the committee will take up these measures immediately so that we can present them to the full Senate for consideration,” Murkowski said.
Among the 40 legislative proposals highlighted in the Jobs Frontier report, the following bills have been referred to the Senate Energy Committee:
· S. 1113 – The Critical Minerals Policy Act (Murkowski)
· S. 1470 – Exploring for Geothermal Energy on Federal Lands Act (Crapo)
· S. 1027 – American Energy and Western Jobs Act (Barrasso)
· S. 407 – National Monument Designation Transparency and Accountability Act (Crapo)
· S. 1129 – Grazing Improvement Act of 2011 (Barrasso)
· S. 375 – Good Neighbor Forestry Act (Barrasso)
· S. 1087 – Wilderness and Roadless Area Release Act of 2011 (Barrasso)
· S. 382 – Ski Area Recreational Opportunity Enhancement Act of 2011 (Udall, Mark)
· S. 1475 – Nellis Dunes National Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area Act of 2011 (Heller)
The report also mentions two other bills sponsored by Sen. Murkowski that have been referred to other Senate committees:
· S. 631 – The Hydropower and Renewable Development Act of 2011
· S. 1226 – The Jobs and Energy Permitting Act
Sen. Murkowski looks forward to working with Sen. Barrasso and other members of the Senate Western Caucus on the Energy Committee to advance legislation that will increase domestic energy production, strengthen the mining sector, curb overly burdensome federal regulation and promote public land access.
