Sempra Clears Environmental Step, Landrieu Presses for Final FERC Approval
Facility would create 3,000 jobs in Louisiana and position America as an energy superpower
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., Chair of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources commended the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for releasing its final environmental impact study (EIS) on time as she requested in an April 4 letter, paving the way for final approval ofSempra’s Cameron LNG terminal in Southwest Louisiana.
“The conclusion of FERC’s final environmental impact study strongly supports final approval of the Sempra’s LNG export project. This will create thousands of high-paying jobs in Southwest Louisiana, provide American exporters critical access to new markets, and position America as an energy super power. Communities in Southwest Louisiana are eager for this project to get underway and for the high-paying jobs that it will bring,” Senator Landrieu said. “I commend FERC for releasing this report on time as I requested earlier this month and call on it to issue final approval for the project as soon as possible.”
In April, Senator Landrieu sent a letter to Acting FERC Chair Cheryl LaFleur calling on the Commission to carry out its regulatory responsibilities on Cameron LNG in a timely manner.
In February, Sen. Landrieu wrote to Ernest Moniz, Secretary of the Department of Energy (DOE), encouraging swift approval of Cameron LNG’s export license. The following day, after waiting more than two years for approval, Cameron LNG received the DOE’s approval.
