Cantwell Statement On Underwhelming Arctic Oil Lease Sales

Washington, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) made the following statement regarding the Department of the Interior's largest-ever lease offering within the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska that yielded only 7 bids:
"The dismal response to this lease sale proves what we’ve been saying all along: even the small amount the GOP claims will be raised by drilling in the Arctic is a sham. Congress should strike the language turning the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge into an oilfield and start over."
