Chairman Murkowski Welcomes Senator Manchin as New Ranking Member
Thanks Senator Cantwell for Her Leadership, Partnership on Bipartisan Legislation
U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today issued the following statement after Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., was named as the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (ENR) beginning in the 116th Congress.
“I congratulate Sen. Manchin on his new role as ranking member. I’m excited to work with him in his new capacity as we continue our committee’s tradition of advancing good, timely, bipartisan legislation for our nation,” Murkowski said. “I also thank Sen. Cantwell and truly appreciate all that we’ve worked on together, including our broad energy and natural resources bill. Even as our partnership on the committee comes to a close, our work together is not done, and I look forward to closing on a strong note with the passage of a bipartisan lands package.”
Murkowski is chairman of ENR. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., has served as ranking member since 2015, and Manchin has been a member of the committee since 2010. ENR has been one of the most active committees in the 115th Congress, reporting close to 160 bills to the full Senate, many of which have become public law.
