October 26, 2021

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, issued the following statement after the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Global Commission on People-Centered Clean Energy Transitions released its final report. Chairman Manchin is the only U.S. representative on the high-level global commission, which was created in February to examine the social and economic impacts of the shift to cleaner energy technologies.

“I was honored to be part of the IEA’s global effort to examine the increased hardships on traditional energy producing communities amid the shift to a cleaner energy future and am proud of the recommendations we reached together. As the global community continues to move forward in this energy transition, I look forward to working closely together to ensure that the lessons learned from this report will be put to good use and that West Virginia’s hardworking coal communities are protected and given opportunities to thrive.”
