Barrasso Applauds the Supreme Court for Upholding Hardship Relief for Small Refineries
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (ENR), issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court upholding hardship relief for small refineries under the Renewable Fuel Standard.
“The Supreme Court has upheld the law by defending hardship relief for small refineries under the Renewable Fuel Standard,” said Barrasso. “Congress recognized that small refineries would not have the capacity to comply with the nation’s biofuel mandate, so it deliberately provided this relief. President Biden should immediately grant hardship relief to small refineries for 2019 and 2020.”
Background Information:
On Feb. 27, 2020, Barrasso along with a dozen other senators sent a letter to President Trump urging him to file a petition for a rehearing of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit’s decision to invalidate hardship relief for small refineries under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).
