Barrasso Amendment to Democrats Tax & Spending Spree: Stop Implementation of the Green New Deal

August 10, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Senators will go on the record on whether or not they support the punishing policies of the Green New Deal. U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, has filed a budget amendment to stop implementation of the Green New Deal.

“The Green New Deal isn’t about protecting the environment. It’s about giving the government more and more control of our lives,” Barrasso said. “Democrats want to use their reckless tax and spending spree to impose this green new disaster on every American. It would cost our nation up to $93 trillion over the next decade and put the government in control of the economy. It’s socialism masked as environmental policy. My amendment slams the brakes on the Democrats’ attempt to subject the American people to the Green New Deal.”

The amendment establishes a deficit-neutral reserve fund to prohibit legislation or regulations to implement the Green New Deal.
