Barrasso: It’s Time for President Biden to Take the Shackles Off American Energy

March 8, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (ENR), issued the following statement in response to President Biden’s announcement on banning Russian oil imports.

“President Biden is finally doing what members of Congress have been pushing for all along,” said Barrasso. “His decision to ban Russian oil is a much-needed step to kill Putin’s cash cow. We should not replace Russian oil with oil from dictators in Iran and Venezuela. The president must end his war on American energy. Republicans have been demanding the administration take the shackles off American energy producers since President Biden took office. That starts with holding new lease sales on federal lands and waters and issuing drilling permits. We have the energy at home and we must use it.”

Background Information:

On March 2, 2022, Barrasso led every Republican member of ENR in a letter to President Biden outlining 10 steps he and Congress can take to regain America’s energy dominance.

On March 1, 2022, Barrasso cosponsored Senator Roger Marshall’s (R-KS) bill to ban the United States from purchasing Russian oil.
