Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and U.S. Representative David McKinley (R-WV) announced that West Virginia is eligible for $28,882,509 in new funding through the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program. This historic level of funding was made possible by the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and will help reduce household energy use while saving consumers money, reducing emissions and improving the health and safety of homes across the state.

“Today’s announcement from the Department of Energy is welcome news for West Virginia. This latest investment from our bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act helps families across our state make energy efficiency improvements to their homes to ensure they can keep their homes warm in the winter and cool in the summer while cutting costs on their energy bills. I urge the state to move quickly to put these critical funds to work,” said Chairman Manchin.

“It’s great to see West Virginia continuing to receive ample support and resources as a result of the bipartisan infrastructure law. As I was helping to negotiate and craft this legislation last year, providing West Virginians the tools needed to live better, healthier lives was always a priority, and this funding will help do just that. “At a time when many West Virginians are struggling with high energy costs we should be looking to help reduce the burden on them. By making investments to modernize homes for low-income families, we will improve efficiency which not only reduces their heating costs, but also creates good jobs and supports our local businesses and our economy,” said Rep. Since 1976, DOE’s Weatherization Assistance Program has assisted low-income families that lack the resources to make their homes more energy efficient. The program supports jobs and is responsible for energy efficiency upgrades in millions of homes across the country. For every dollar invested by the program, $4.50 is generated in combined energy savings and non-energy benefits such as local economic growth. Since 2010, the Weatherization Assistance Program has provided $34.8 million in funding for West Virginia and served nearly 5,800 households across the state.
