Heinrich Statement in Support of Burgum, Nominee for Interior Secretary
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, released the following statement of support for Governor Doug Burgum, President Trump’s nominee for U.S. Secretary of Interior.
“I clearly do not agree with Governor Burgum on every issue. However, I voted to confirm Governor Burgum’s nomination for Interior Secretary because I have found that a healthy relationship with the Secretary of Interior is critical to securing the best outcomes for the State of New Mexico.
“As Ranking Member, I am focused on holding the incoming Interior Secretary accountable to keep public lands in public hands, address climate change, bolster outdoor recreation, and protect Tribal sovereignty. The Department of Interior also plays a critical role in managing New Mexico’s water resources and Governor Burgum committed to working with local communities and stakeholders in doing that work.
“If confirmed, I will work to ensure Governor Burgum follows the rule of law and safeguards our natural heritage for our children and for generations to come.”
