Heinrich Statement in Support of Wright, Nominee for Energy Secretary

January 23, 2025

Washington - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, released the following statement of support for Mr. Chris Wright, President Trump’s nominee for U.S. Secretary of Energy.

“After careful consideration of his qualifications, I voted in favor of Mr. Chris Wright. While I do not agree with Mr. Wrighton a number of issues, he has committed to working with us in good faith to continue investing in our national labs in New Mexico and across the country, accelerating transmission infrastructure to meet our nation’s skyrocketing demand for clean power, and, most importantly, upholding the law and implementing Congress' vision.

“In my role as Ranking Member, I will work to hold Mr. Wright at his word – ensuring he does not lose sight of our shared vision for a cleaner, healthier and more affordable energy future. This must be grounded in sustaining the progress we've made in the last several years to create high-quality jobs, lower costs, and restore America’s status as a global leader in innovation and entrepreneurship, with science leading the way.

“I look forward to working with Mr. Wright to ensure he succeeds and effectively serves the people of New Mexico and America.”
